Today's post is brought to you by fellow designer, blogger and all-round interior style maven, Laura Thomas. You'll usually find her at her blog, Laura Thomas Interior Design Blog, but she's popped by today to share her 10 top tips for creating a beautifully serene sleeping space...

Our bedroom is a place to relax and revive and it is important to make sure this room is personal to us as individuals. Good sleep and good food are the foundational ingredients to a successful and happy life.  Therefore creating a space that allows us to achieve quality restfulness is important.

There are no hard and fast rules as to what a bedroom should or shouldn't be. However there are a few guidelines to think about whether re-decorating, renovating, renting or restructuring our main resting place.

1 - USE CALMING COLOURS
Bright and loud shades tend not to calm the mind, where creams and lighter shades ease the eye.

2- CHOOSE IMAGES FOR YOUR BEDROOM WISELY

Art that promotes positive visual calming and happiness is great for your bedroom, as well as pictures of family and friends.

3- MAKE A HEADBOARD A FOCAL POINT
This doesn't have to be an expensive, store bought feature. There is a wealth of DIY tutorials for making simple and fun headboards, no matter what your DIY skills entail.
