Creating a Cosy Winter Home
As we welcome Autumn's shorter days and chilly breezes here in the Southern Hemisphere, we're thinking about how we can make our homes - specifically our living rooms - more cozy.
When you spend more time indoors, your furniture needs to be sink-into-it comfortable. Bean bag chairs are a perfect choice - just be sure to choose one that has structure and seaming, so it cradles your body. And because the colder seasons are all about rest, put your feet up on a soft footstool or ottoman. Dress up your sofa with plush, plump cushions - they add flair to your interior look, and are great to cuddle, too!
Soft candlelight creates such a beautiful calming ambience in any room. We find ourselves lighting candles more in the colder months. Group candles of the same colour and shape, but different heights, together. Arrange them on a coffee table, mantlepiece, or even on the wall on a small sconce.
A READING NOOK
Autumn and Winter are about a slower, quieter pace of life. Embrace the seasons by creating a cosy little reading corner for yourself. Include a stylish floor lamp or table lamp, a side table for your hot drink (or cheek-warming Pinot Noir), some lush woolen socks or slippers, and a comfy chair.
BLANKETS & THROWS
Dressing your home for Autumn and Winter means soft, cozy blankets and throws.
We're looking at blankets in soft grey shades - grey complements other colours nicely, and has a very relaxed, lived-in feel.
When it comes to fabrics, choose a fabric that won't easily pull or pill, so it will keep it's lush good looks for many seasons. For something a little different, reindeer hides make a real style statement and are beautifully soft n' shaggy. Sheepskins are also a classic choice, and they're not just for the floor - lay one across a favourite arm chair for instant luxe.
We love the way our bean bag chairs look with a blanket draped over one corner. A stylish interior accent that beckons you to sit and snuggle!
GIANT FLOOR CUSHIONS
Whether in front of the fire or in front of the TV, giant floor cushions are like laying on your own little cloud. Bring along a blanket too, and you might just find yourself floating off to the land of nod...
